Thanks to everyone who gave me positive advice, and prayers. My apologies for not updating my blog, I just have been really buzy lately. I adopted a little dog a couple days a go, I have also have another dog a pitbull. I thought she was getting lonely when I left the house. They keep each other in good company. I watched the movie "Lil Man" yesterday, it wasnt as funny as I thought it would have been. It seems like the summer has gone by so fast, and I havent even went on vacation yet, soon the new semester will be starting again; one more year. But, I guess you could say I have had a very productive summer. ~LOL~ I hope you, my brothas and sistas are having a great summer. My friend Caitlin's birthday is next week we are going to see "Phantom of the Operah", at the Venetian. Caitlin majors in theater, so she loves these kind of shows. Here in Nevada it has been at its highest, up to 210 degrees. Oh Allah, I think it is time for another ice age. For me it has even been too hot sleep, or eat during the day. My friend who recenty visited London said it was the hottest its ever been. I really do feel sory for other countries who are not use to such a heat wave. My windshield got nicked the other day on my way to work from a rock, I thought no big deal. When I came out for my lunch break, the nick had turned into a two inch crack from the sun(Shakes Head). Oh well, what can you do? I guess I will have to be more cautious on the freeway, and not try to get behind any more gravel trucks. Catlike and delicate in appearance, Baaba Maal sings with hurricane force. His music embraces the gentle filigree of West African folk, the tumult of mbalax and the toughness of rap and reggae.
Maal comes from the Toucouleur people who live in the Fulani fouta region, by the Senegal River, which divides Senegal and Mauritania. Young Baaba left home and moved to the Wolof-dominated capital Dakar to study music and explore his national culture. He soon returned to the north and spent a year with his group traveling along the Senegal River and learning from the old musicians village by village.
In 1982, Maal went to a conservatory in Paris, where he performed with his longtime friend the blind singer Mansour Seck. The duo pricked up ears in Europe with their intimate live recording, Djam Leelii. Maal returned to Senegal to form his current group, Dande Lenol, or "Voice of the Race." The group has played a key role in African pop's incorporation of hip-hop, reggae and techno, notably on their landmark 1994 release, Firin' in Fouta. Other Maal releases with Dande Lenol include Lam Toro (1992), Nomad Soul (1997) and Live at Royal Festival Hall (1999).
Maal also maintains an acoustic group that plays and records folkloric music. His 1991 acoustic release Baayo is a landmark Afropop recording, and Maal reprised its acoustic format on Missing You (Mi Yeewlii) (2001). A true original, Maal celebrates village life even as he advocates contemporary causes, including women's rights in Africa. Like the griots he admires, Maal sings of history and heroes, bringing the lessons of the past into peoples' lives today.– Banning Eyre, Courtesy Afropop Worldwide: www.afropop.org
http://www.ask.com

Never Truly See Your Self

My friend Caitlin once told me that you will never truly see your self how others have. I've always belived there was some truth in that statement, it is really hard to know what others are thinking of you. People can smile, but feel pain. People can cry, but not even feel sad. People can apologize, but not even feel remorse. As complex as the world is, it is any wonder people have survived .

But, I guess that is how the world works. Dont you think so? Pretending to be on thing only to survive another day in life. Being a mother working endless hours, pretending to love life when really you are aching just to rest. Going to a job you hate, just to pay the bills. Even spouses, saying honey I'll miss you when you really want them just to leave the house. Marrying someone just to be financially secure. Which reminds me of my sister's friend who married a man just because he was wealthy, and owned his own business. He was really a tyrant who would physically abuse her, and make her wear sweat suits; or baggy clothes even though it was in the middle of July. When I first saw her I thought she was in her mid-thirties, but really she was no older than 25.

Same with politicians, don't they have to lie, and save face just to get by. Make another dollar, so that their generations of their children can survive. I do wonder, do any of them have a conscience bone in their body? As my mother use to say, "Everything is not as it seems". I guess she was right. The manager is ok too, I guess you could say. She basically sits in a office all day doing nothing, while the rest of us clean, close up the store, and ring out the customers. My supervisor is a decent woman, she is a heavy smoker who has a mouth of a sailor(LOL), every time my boss leaves which is around six she begins to tell us stories about her life, and the cutomers of the store. I been working side by side with a girl named Amelia, she is nice, very quiet, but also very lazy at times. Let me tell you about the customers, the customers are very Very well-off, they live in these big two story houses on Black Mountain over looking the city, and every one of them either drives a BMW, Lexus, or some sort of SUV. Some of them are ok, but most come in with this attitude like "I know Im all that." They are quite interesting to watch, and by interesting Im reffering to their over the top "plastic surgery", and "botox". Besides working at the drug store, Im also all most done with my semester(Insha'Allah). Belive me it has not been easy, but it is well worth it. I will be quitting CVS soon as the regular school semester starts, I need to begin to concentrate more on school. Just three more courses! During this year I have learned a lot about life, and people. Ive learned that there are good spirited people still left in this world, and I have also learned that there are some bad spiritied people too. Friends that you have been with for years turn your back on you, even judging you when you needed them the most. I asked one of my friends why does Allah let such bad things happen to good people in his world, he said," Allah is the protector and maker of all living, and breathing things, but his creations are given free will in order to prove themselves worthy enough to be with "Him" in Heaven." Sometimes, when I see such horrible things going on in the world such as famine, rape, and wars I have to question my faith. I also asked this question to my mother a year ago, why is that a majority of wealthy people care nothing about the less fortunate? She said,"Men who have a Heaven on Earth, usually have made their bed in Hell." In these statements bring truth to me, I do not have a lot of Muslim friends in Nevada, I was Christian for eighteen years of my life and Im only nineteen years old now , so most of my friends are Christian. When I joined "IslamicaWeb.com", I thought thought this is so great I can be among other Muslims, and see their out look on life. But lately I have seen it as a negative pit, a place where people complain more about, then discuss good statements. Don't get me wrong their are some "Great" people there, and everything is not negative all the time. It's just sometimes I wander if I should stay, when I had originally joined Islamica I had certain people I use to talk to, then they left. After they left I began talking to other members, and what do you know they either left too or got banned. So, when another nice Islamican got banned recently I really had to start thinking is this the right place for me? So many questions. Maybe I only have my self to blame for joining in the first place, but I know most Muslim brothers and sisters do not act like. Well, I guess I just have to think and pray on this. Salaams.
http://www.ask.com

Another Day Another Dollar

Another day, another dollar as some say. I haven't been going out as much lately, I went to my friend Diamond's graduation party . It was really crowded, but it was fun untill a group of guys came in and started to fight and then I left. They really ruined her party. I started working my summer job at Circuit City, its just untill the regular semester starts up again so I can have some extra cash. Sunday Im dancing with a group I have been with a while at my friend's church. Oh yes I already told you about them there called African Arts Production Inc. Let see what else, I cant wait till I get paid so I can finally pay off the rest of my car.(InshaAllah) Well thats all for now. Then finally summer will be here. Lately I have been staying home except for school and work, I havent been going out with my friends(being lazy). I plan to get out everyday during this summer. I hope get a job at a retail store in the Fashion Show Mall over summer vacation, it would be nice not to have to work so hard this summer you know? My summer job last year I worked at a grocery store in the floral department, but I also had to do a lot of stocking, and when I was not doing anything the manager would find me and I would have to load things off the truck. I hurt my back really bad doing that, never could get any help all the other employees they would run away so they wouldnt have to do it. I went to see Mission Impossible last week, I liked it. Oh, what else I ve done a lot of shopping with my sister, every weekend it seems like we manage to make it to the mall, then we always whine afterwards because we are so BROKE. Just enough money at the end of the week to pay the bills, shameful I know. Oh, I almost forgot Im getting my own car. It is a 2003 Chevy Malibu, Im so happy. My neighbor is letting me buy it from her, great not having to bum rides of my roomates and friends all the time, not that they care I am good company, and I always offer to pay. Well better get back to studying, Salaams!
http://www.ask.com

Thought I would share one of my favorite artist Damian Marley. We went to Arlington Cemetery, Capital Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, Haynes Point, Fords Theater, and the Washington Monument. The schools we went to were Bowie State University, Morgan State University, Coppin State University, Virginia Union University, Virginia State University, Hampton University, and Norfolk University. My favorite school was Bowie State University, the people there were very nice and seemed focused on their education. They also have many clubs, many after school partys, and a nice band. Virginia State University really seemed like a party school, every one knows where the partys are at, no one was going to class, to much temptation for me. Also at Virginia State we saw three people from BET's "Collage Hill", they were very nice. We also went to the Union Station Mall, Mills Mall, Ballston Common Mall, and the Southpark Mall. Each mall was very fun and interesting, not just for the shopping but also from the new people I met. One boy taught us about "Go Go" dancing, it's a popular dance they do in Virginia and D.C.(nothing explicit). Every person we came into contact with seem very fun, and nice. I applied to Bowie State University. I saw a couple of "sisters", mostly in Maryland. They find campus life to be just as exciting, and challenging. They told me unversity life is all what you make it, and who you hang around. Im so glad I went on the tour, it was great to get out of town. Well, Salaams!
http://www.ask.com

Black Collage Tour

Spring Break is here, yeah. He is teaching us this song "Bami Jo Are E Bami Yo". It means come dance with me. I bringing my saxaphone to play, still got to figure out the notes. Well, thats been about it. Oh yeah, my room mate got me some nice valentines day asortments, including Lindors(my favorites) how nice of him. Well thats all for now got to get ready for work! I thought it would never end. After class I took the bus home with my friend Shadonna. I came straight home, changed clothes and then walked my dogs. I've been noticing there has been a lot more dogs in the neighberhood lately, every where we turned there seem to be one dog after the other barking. After that I came home, I studied my nursing asistant book. My teacher gave us a pop quiz for tomorrow. (Makes annoyed face) Kinda got side tracked, when my friend called me up. After that I watched my show on Lifetime, "Golden Girls" I love that show. Makes me laugh everytime, and always brightens up my day. Anywayz, I noticed something I had never notice before today when I went on Islamica community, a lot of people are racist towards darker skinned muslims. Where did that come from? Aren't we all the same in Allah's eyes? I've heard of that happening before to my friends brother who went over seas to work in a military base. I guess descrimination is prevelant every where. Does one person always have to feel that he or she is better then the next? We all bleed, and breathe the same does it really matter what skin color we are? Race is everything, and nothing. In Nevada were I live, most of the muslims here are African or Indian. They are mostly dark skinned, I never had experience that issue till now. From the muslim world point of view anyway, maybe I just forgot to open up my eyes and see. It was so funny. One of my newly favorite movies, next to Syrianna. Syrianna was a good movie because it showed why there is so much termoil here in the west. It's sad the way the goverment treats people just to make a extra buck. These princes make me sick in these middle eastern countrys. They'll do anything just so they can have more money. What jerks, not to say all of them are like that but the majority of them are. I came home after I saw the movie, and I finally joined Islamica web. I like it, there is not a lot of sites for the Islamic community. Very interesting place to go.! Well I better go to sleep, I have class in the morning. I went to Wal-Mart to get a new curtain, and rod for my room. My room looks a whole lot better then it used to. I painted it cocoa, with white borders. After I went to Wal-Mart I went to Olive Garden, they have the best bread sticks and salad. I stopped by KFC, because my friend wanted chicken, it took forever to get. After that I came home, and put my curtain up it looks pretty. Anywayz, after that I called my friend, and wanted to see if she wanted to go out for the night. But, she was tired from her basketball game so I'll see her tomorrow after service. Oh, yeah I went to the community collage today and took my math class.
